How Do You Pay for Home Health Care?

There are many different ways to pay for AseraCare’s Home Health services. For this reason, AseraCare’s staff will work with you and your insurance company to determine your healthcare benefits.

AseraCare’s Home Health services may be paid directly by the patient, through private insurance coverage, worker’s compensation, Medicare or Medicaid. Each type of insurance has different medical and eligibility requirements that must be met before care is authorized for insurance payment. Some insurance providers may require pre-certification and may limit the number and types of home health visits AseraCare Home Health can provide. Others may require a co-payment or deductible for the service.

Always check with your insurance provider regarding terms of coverage.

Medicare and Home Health Care

You may be eligible for the federal Medicare program if you are aged 65 or older. To be eligible for Medicare home health coverage, a patient must be homebound, under a physician’s care and in need of medically necessary skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech-language pathology services or continued occupational therapy. A physician must authorize and periodically review the patient’s home health care plan.

Other Public Programs for Home Health

Medicaid is a program for low-income individuals operated jointly by federal and individual state governments. Eligibility varies from state to state, so contact your local social services agency to learn about Medicaid requirements and benefits in your area.

The Veteran’s Administration covers home health care services for veterans, if the individual is at least 50-percent disabled due to a service-related injury or illness. A physician’s authorization is necessary.
